Steps for Unlocking The Bootloader on Nexus 6P How to unlock bootloader on Nexus 6P Before starting with the process of installing the TWRP recovery image on your Nexus 6P, you will have to unlock the bootloader of your Nexus 6P. Here’s how you can do that. Go to the Settings of your phone, and then head to System. In the system, visit the About Phone section. Click on Build Number a few times to enable developer settings. When the developer options are enabled, you will a message appear on your screen ‘You are now a developer.’ Head back to the settings, and then to the system. You will find developer options there. In the developer options, search for OEM unlocking toggle, and enable it. By doing this, you will be able to unlock OEM bootloader on your Nexus 6P. In the developer options, turn on USB debugging as well. Once done, boot your phone to Fastboot mode. Power Off your phone, and then press the Volume Down + Power Button combo for a few seconds to boot your phone to Fastboot mode. Once in Fastboot mode, connect your device to your PC via USB cable. Open the command-line window on your PC, and then type the following command fastboot devices in the command-line window. This will return the unique ID of your device. If it doesn’t ensure that USB debugging is turned on and correct drivers are installed. Download the TWRP supported on your device from the official website or unofficial image from the android forums. Download the .img file of TWRP and name it to n6ptwrp.img. Install ADB and Fastboot package. Copy the TWRP image (n6ptwrp.img) to the folder where ADB Fastboot tools are installed. Next, connect your device to your PC with a USB cable while it is in Bootloader mode. Then launch the command line window by right-clicking on the blank space in the folder. Type the command fastboot devices in the command line window. This will ensure that your device and your PC are connected over Fastboot. After that enter the command mentioned below to flash the TWRP recovery image on your device. fastboot flash recovery n6ptwrp.img The process will begin. Once it is done, you will have to boot to TWRP recovery mode. This can be done by pressing the Volume button till recovery mode shows up. Confirm it by pressing the power button, and your phone will be booted to TWRP recovery mode. Next, you will be prompted to Unmodified System Partition. To do this, head to the wipe menu of TWRP and then select Format Data. To confirm, type yes in the given field to format the data partition and decrypt it. Once done, go to reboot and then press the recovery button to reboot to TWRP recovery mode.
